Hedonism Wines - Architectural metalwork, Commercial glazing
Hedonism Wines is a boutique wine & spirits store in the heart of London’s Mayfair.
The brief from the designers was for a thermally-efficient facade with concealed glazing channels, so that the glass seems to disappear into the brick columns. Low-iron glass was used to give the highest possible colour rendering of the displays. We also manufactured the large oversize bronze-framed door, which weighs in excess of half a ton, yet opens effortlessly.
We installed a number of fire-rated ‘walk-on’ glass floor panels to illuminate the basement tasting area with as much natural light as possible. As well as providing functional light, these glass panels look visually stunning and considerably add to the interior design of the space.
Towards the back of the ground floor area, a large lay-flat roof light and another walk on glass floor panel flood the rear of the basement space below with natural light. The staircase that leads down into the basement has a structural toughened and laminated low-iron glass balustrade.
The Gonville Hotel – Entrance Porch - Commercial glazing
Following the successful completion of a fully glazed dining room at The Gonville Hotel, the Firman Glass Projects team were commissioned to create a structural glass entrance porch at this luxury, boutique property in the historic city of Cambridge.
The porch includes two sets of automatic doors and a structural glass balustrade.
Glass Pergola – Pembroke College, Cambridge - Commercial glazing
This stunning glass pergola was commissioned for Pembroke College, part of the University of Cambridge. The thin stainless steel sections of the skeleton frame offered no structural rigidity. It was only when the ‘water white’ Starfire panels were bonded into the structure, that by acting as diaphragms, the whole construction became structurally sound. The pergola creates a ‘stack effect’ natural ventilation for the building.
The pergola was built in our workshops in the 1990s as one piece and transported to site on a low loader before being lifted into position on the rooftop.
The Gonville Hotel – Dining room - Commercial glazing
The brief for this project at a luxury, boutique hotel in the heart of historic Cambridge was for a fully glazed dining room with minimal framed sliding doors that could be open during the summer months.
Firman Glass Projects provided a very thermally efficient system with solar control glass to maintain a comfortable, cool atmosphere during times of bright sunshine. The panel sizes were maximised to the point that the heavy glass units had to be lifted in with a crane and we achieved ‘frameless’ glass corners. We completed this project in Autumn 2017.
The client was so impressed that we are now creating a structural glass porch with two sets of automatic doors and a structural glass balustrade.
